Two-time X Games skateboard medalist Jordyn Barratt
lives in Encinitas, where she just recently graduated from
San Dieguito Academy. When she’s not competing at the
Vans Park Series World Championships or on the Dew Tour,
she’s studying business at MiraCosta College, surfing
and dreaming of the Olympics.
Your local skate park:
Encinitas Community Park, known as Poods.
Craziest trick you’ve pulled off: Frontside invert.
[Check her out on You Tube!]
Mentors: Bucky Lasek and Steve Caballero. Bucky and
I were both skating events at the summer X Games.
He helped me with my runs and I ended up
with a silver medal!
If you weren’t a pro skater, you’d be: A pro surfer.
Favorite local surf break: Seaside in Cardiff daily,
or Swami’s when it’s big!
Go-to North County eateries: Flower Child for organic
vegetarian food. Sambazon for an acai bowl, Best Pizza
and Brew for a slice, and Fish 101 for fish tacos or sashimi.
Three things teens should do in San Diego:
Surf or get a surf lesson, drive a race car at K1 Speed
and go see a Padres game!
Best dessert: I LOVE the vegan ice cream and
root beer floats at Plant Power, next to my favorite
Encinitas skate park.
Best thing about being a pro skater:
Getting to do what I love and traveling the world.
Last year I went to Sweden and Denmark. I did a World
Surf League event in Cabo and the X Games in
Minneapolis. Next is the Vans Park Series World
Championships in China. I am so excited!
