Pro golfer and Poway native Charley Hoffman grew up playing
Years on the PGA Tour: 12
San Diego Junior Golf, standing out as a two-time California state
high school champion. After playing college golf at UNLV, he
turned pro in 2000. He and his wife, Stacy, created the Charley
Hoffman Foundation in 2009 and have raised more than $1.8
million for charities in San Diego and Las Vegas.
Where did you grow up golfing? Oaks North
in Rancho Bernardo.
Career high point: My first win at the Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic, my second year on tour. It solidified that I could play
and compete on the PGA Tour.
Longest drive you’ve hit: Over 400 yards on a downhill par
5 that was also downwind.
Favorite brand of clubs: Titleist. I have played the same
brand of clubs my whole career on tour. I think they make the
best equipment on the market.
Secret weapon in your bag: My putter.
Favorite San Diego courses: I grew up getting lessons
Memorable local dining spots: Truluck’s is one of my
from Chuck Courtney at Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. Now I do
a lot of my practicing at the Grand Golf Club, Del Mar. I played
StoneRidge Country Club in high school and still love going
back to play with my dad and brother. My parents live on the
favorites, especially during South Florida stone crab season.

Passion project: My wife and I started our foundation close
When you’re not golfing, you’re: Hanging out and
to 10 years ago. It supports three San Diego organizations:
San Diego Junior Golf, which obviously molded me into the
person I am today; Pro Kids Golf, which gives inner-city kids
a safe place to do schoolwork and learn, and then they are
rewarded with golf; and last but not least, the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation, an organization that touches our hearts the
deepest, as my brother’s wife lost two sisters to the disease.
