2160 Avenida de la Playa, La Jolla
With more than 70 miles of pristine
coastline, you’ll find a sweet sandy
spot for every desire, whether it’s
adventure, family fun or a slice of
CORONADO CENTRAL BEACH
Voted the number one beach in the
country by national experts, this sand
dune-rich beach with gentle waves is
perfect for families, long walks and
seashell collecting. At low tide, explore
tide pools in front of the Hotel del
Coronado, and be sure to wander into
the quaint village to check out shops
and grab a bite to eat.
DOG BEACH, DEL MAR
Across the street from the famous Del
Mar racetrack, where the San Dieguito
River greets the sea, or as they say, the
“turf meets the surf,” this broad wedge
of beach has lots of room for volleyball
games, and a giant gathering place for
furry friends to romp and swim.
TORREY PINES STATE BEACH
Located at the bottom of the 300-foot cliffs of white and golden stone, this picturesque
beach is a prime location for relaxing by the sea or an invigorating morning hike in Torrey
Pines State Reserve. Hikers and runners at the summit should watch for dolphins below
and migrating gray whales from December until March. Explore the park on free docent-led tours on weekends at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. that typically last a little more than an hour.
This stretch of beach represents the vibrant SoCal scene. Bike or Rollerblade along the
boardwalk from Belmont Park to Pacific Beach, stop by the WaveHouse (3125 Ocean
Front Walk) for burgers, beers and a chance to watch the surfers get tubular, and then
grab shaved ice, ice cream or tacos at the beachfront eateries. Don’t miss the acai bowls
and decadent smoothies at the Swell Café (3833 Mission Blvd.).
