Born in San Diego and raised in Mexico, Marcela Villadolid is an accomplished
chef, cookbook author and star in the Food Network show, The Kitchen. The
talented chef also has a branded Mexican food line with Safeway and organic
tequila called Hacienda de la Flor. Here are some of her favorite things in
Local Farm: I’m a huge fan of Lucila de Alejandro and her amazing Suzie’s Farm. She’s so
inspiring when she gives a tour and talk; it’s as if she personally knows each and every single
veggie on her field.
Farmers Market: My favorite is the Little Italy Mercato on Saturdays.
Kid-Friendly Fun: My son Fausto and I love to cruise Balboa Park for the museums and parks.
The La Jolla Cove is another magical place. And who doesn’t love Belmont Park?
Beach: Coronado Beach, right in front of the Hotel del Coronado, even in the winter.
Eatery: We are a Puesto taco-loving family.
Seafood: I love going to the Little Italy farmers market where Mark Lane from Poppa’s
Fresh Fish pops open a sea urchin and makes me a ceviche on the spot. You can literally
taste the ocean.
Lunch Spot: El Pescador Fish Market in La Jolla for a calamari sandwich.
Sweets: Strawberry scones at Extraordinary Desserts.
Marcela Villadolid is a SDTA Ambassador and your Guide to the Good Stuff.
