SAN DIEGO JAZZ FEST
The 35th annual festival at Town and
Country Resort & Convention Center features a dynamic lineup of musicians, from
traditional jazz, swing and rockabilly to
Dixieland and ragtime, November 26-30.
Hot tickets at the San Diego Civic Theatre include Jersey Boys (October 21-26),
Wicked (November 12-December 7), Dirty
Dancing (January 6-11) and the San Diego
Opera’s 2015 performance season, featuring La Bohème, Don Giovanni and Nixon
in China (January 24-March 22). Honky,
an irreverent satire, lands at the Lyceum
Theatre (November 8-December 7).
Other great picks include Monty Python’s
Spamalot at the Coronado Playhouse
(October 24-November 30); The Hunchback of Notre Dame (October 26-December
7) and The Darrell Hammond Project (
February 6-March 8) at La Jolla Playhouse;
and Murder for Two, a quirky mystery at
The Old Globe (January 24-March 1).
The 10-person company from Jean Issacs San Diego Dance Theater will perform Cabaret Dances, including the world premier
of “Pillow…Case” with live music and words, along with a reprise
from 2003, entitled “Atlantic Man” with multimedia elements at
the Mandell Weiss Theater at UC San Diego, January 16-18.
SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY
Standout performances of the 2014-15 season include Halloween
2014: A Nightmare on B Street (October 31), a spooky evening
of spine-tingling tunes; Bach and Rachmaninoff, directed by Jahja
Ling with Israeli-American violinist Gil Shaham (December 12-14);
and Holiday Pops (December 19-21), a festive holiday fete of Irish
holiday music and enduring favorites featuring Grammy Award-winning and nine-time all-Ireland fiddle champion Eileen Ivers.
Balboa Park is transformed into a joyous winter wonderland for this holiday festival, the largest in
San Diego. Revelers enjoy multicultural musical and dance performances, an international food
pavilion and free admission to select museums. The high-spirited event brings together families
and friends to celebrate the season and the wonders and beauty of Balboa Park. December 5-6
