What’s new at the Zoo? The Australian Outback, which features more than 20
koalas, several Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies and countless bird species all
surrounded by unique plants native to Australia.
Your favorite Zoo exhibit? Honestly, it’s hard to say I have a favorite, but if forced
to narrow it down, I’d say Elephant Odyssey. There’s an excellent educational
component to the entire area. As you walk through, you learn about what animals
once roamed the San Diego area thousands of years ago.
Insider tips for visiting the Zoo? Get there just before the Zoo opens at 9 a.m. If
you have a favorite animal, visit it first. Most animals are active in the morning
and evening hours, so if you want to see your favorite panda or polar bear doing
panda or polar bear stuff (other than sleeping), get there early. Also, the Zoo is
open until 9 p.m. in the summer and there is nothing better than experiencing
the Zoo in the twilight hours.
What not to miss? We have animal encounters and keeper talks scheduled every
day. Make sure you grab a map as it has a schedule of these events.
Great way to spend a Saturday? The Zoo of course! Or the Safari Park. It’s a pretty
awesome place, too.
Best thing about living in San Diego? We have the best weather all year-round,
really good Mexican food and lots and lots of beaches.
