at the La Jolla Festival of the Arts (June 22–23), Carlsbad Art in the Village
(August 11), and Art Walk San Diego (August 24–25). Performing arts are
also abundant, from the San Diego Symphony’s Summer Pops, a series of
outdoor concerts at Embarcadero Marina Park South (June 27–September 1),
to The Old Globe’s Shakespeare Festival (June 2–September 29), Moonlight
Amphitheatre’s summer season (June 26–September 7), Sideways at the La
Jolla Playhouse (July 16–August 18), La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest
(July 31–August 23), and the San Diego Fringe Festival (July 17), where local
and international artists mount performances ranging from cabaret to spoken
word. Or, do dinner and a show at Humphreys Concerts By the Bay.
4 Hillcrest CityFest:

diversity with
live music, a beer
garden, and more

SPORTS AND REC
Feel the burn at fitness events, like the
Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon & Half Marathon (June 2) and the Color Me Rad
5K (June 8), where runners get blasted
with paint in all the colors of the rainbow. Or, race through a muddy obstacle
course against the Camp Pendleton
Marines at the World Famous Mud
Run (June 1–2, 8–9, 15). Cyclists should
check out the Bike the Bay (August 25),
your only chance to bike over the San
Diego–Coronado Bridge. The annual
Over-the-Line Tournament (July 13–14
and 20–21) a bat-and-ball sport born
in San Diego, is always big fun and has
been a local tradition for more than 60
years. Or, bet big at the Del Mar Racetrack (July 18–September 5) and stay for
a free concert (Fridays at 4 p.m.).
