We love dreaming up
new races. 1
Locals have a long history of inventing running
events, starting with the invention of the triathalon
in 1974. Today, the creativity continues, with running events for fans of zombies, mud, paint, lasers,
dogs, cancer survivors, beer, ‘ 80’s flashbacks, and
turkeys. So what are you waiting for? Lace up those
Nikes and start running.
Try these summer running events on for size:

We’ve got culture. 2
San Diego
Theater is big in San Diego. Many local productions make
it all the way to Broadway, like The Full Monty, which first
played at The Old Globe, and RENT, which debuted at the
La Jolla Playhouse. This summer, there are plenty of opportunities to see all sorts of shows, from The Old Globe’s
world-famous Shakespeare Festival (June 2–September 29) to
imaginative independent productions at the San Diego Fringe
Festival (July 1–7).
We decorate
with murals. 3
San Diego’s public spaces are transformed into works of art for everyone
to admire, from the murals celebrating Hispanic culture and history under
the San Diego–Coronado Bridge to the
many color-splashed walls in La Jolla.

We eat so much more
than fish tacos. 4
Don’t get us wrong, we love a battered fish filet wrapped up in a
tortilla, but there’s lots more to love. San Diego is a multi-cultural destination with a diverse and delicious food scene
where many world cuisines represented, including Moroccan,
Russian, Ethiopian, Indian, South African, Lebanese, and more.
