is far enough from the downtown core to be peaceful, yet
still close enough to major
points of interest to be
destinations unto themselves.
A Day in Harbor
Island, Shelter Island
& Point Loma
Do lunch at Point Loma Seafoods (2805 Em-
erson Street) or savor tiki drinks and feast on
Polynesian cuisine at Bali Hai (2230 Shelter
bet for happy hour with a view. For dinner, eat with
the locals at Gabardine (1005 Rosecrans Street), or
go to The Pearl Hotel’s “dive-in theatre” on Tuesday
nights for a dip, a meal, and a movie (1410 Rosecrans
Street). Humphreys Concerts by the Bay is a great
spot for dinner and a show during the summer, with
everything from comedy to jazz concerts (Bill Cosby
on July 21, Diana Krall on September 20).
Humphreys Restaurant (2241
Shelter Island Drive) is a great bet
for brunch, served up with harbor
views. Then, go after the big fish on a
fishing adventure with Point Loma
Sportfishing (1403 Scott Street) or
H&M Landing (2803 Emerson Street),
or poke around Liberty Station in the
redeveloped Naval Training Center

park, the historic Sail Ho Golf Course,
and the NTC Promenade, home to
more than 48 museums, galleries, art
studios and dance companies.
