The home court of San Diego State University’s basketball
teams hosts special performances during the off-season,
including Juanes (May 16), Jack White (Aug. 21) and the Game
of Thrones Live Concert Experience (Sept. 11).
You’ll be surprised at the big names who perform at Belly Up,
an intimate venue in Solana Beach and at vintage theater The
Observatory North Park. Little Italy’s three-story Music Box
hosts everything from electronica and indie rock to Latin
rhythms and Live Nation books notable lineups at House of Blues.
Each summer and fall, Petco Park, home field of the San Diego
Padres, transforms into a venue for large-scale stadium shows.
This year, Petco welcomes The Eagles, with Zac Brown Band
and the Doobie Brothers (Sept. 22) followed by Def Leppard,
Journey and Cheap Trick (Sept. 23).
KAABOO DEL MAR
Katy Perry, Robert Plant, Imagine Dragons and Foo Fighters
are set to headline this year at Del Mar Fairgrounds’ high-end
three-day music festival unlike any other. There’s no dirt or
dust, no porta-potties—in their place is a spa zone, gourmet food
plaza, exclusive pool party, art on display, an air-conditioned
comedy club and an after-show dance party. Sept. 14–16.
VALLEY VIEW CASINO CENTER
You may remember this landmark arena in the Midway
District from the movie Almost Famous. The venue regularly
hosts big-name bands and sporting events; upcoming shows
include Pink (May 28), Andrea Bocelli (June 21), Sam Smith
(Sept. 1) and Shakira (Sept. 5).

guest Cyndi Lauper (Aug. 26).
More than 40 musicians and DJs from all
over the world turn it up with San Diego Bay
as their backdrop during this semiannual
electronic dance music festival. The high-
energy two-day fest attracts artists like
Empire of the Sun, Gorgon City, Bonobo,
Little Dragon, Tchami, Rüfüs du Sol and more
onstage at Waterfront Park each
spring and fall. CRSSD.COM
